A large mas in the Grasse region, the main house of which dates back to the eighteenth century. Until 2005 it was in the ownership of members of the Dom Perignon family; it has since been acquired by new owners and has recently been renovated. The house sits on a hillside with spectacular views across the plain below Grasse down to the Mediterranean. The house can sleep eight to ten persons. It can be reached in 30 minutes from Nice airport.

The House and Grounds

The house is approached by a long winding driveway leading to the front of the house. From this arrival point, the view takes your breath away. Through tall wooden doors you enter the house to find yourself in a large light hall with a ceiling stretching up to the full height of the next floor. Ahead lies the spacious living room (45 m²), with an open fire place, comfortable sofas and a piano. To the right of the living room is the dining room (26 m²) which sits eight to ten. Both the living room and dining room give onto the outside sitting area shaded under arches from the hot sun with Indonesian and Moroccan furniture – a perfect place for a mid-day or evening glass of rosé. The area looks out on a lawn and steps lead off the lawn up to the swimming pool which is situated on a higher level.

To the left of the entrance hall is a television room and study (24m²), with a wide screen television and dvd player. To the right is the kitchen (32m²) which has wooden beams and can itself sit eight to ten people. The kitchen has an oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and dishwasher. There is also a table for sitting and eating outside the kitchen.

Taking the stairs from the entrance hall, you arrive at the bedrooms. The magnificent master bedroom is large and has an open ensuite bath and shower (together with the bedroom, 41m²). You can sit in the bath with a glass of champagne or with your partner or preferably both and from there enjoy the view across the olive trees and to the Mediterranean! The next bedroom is also a double room (15m²) with an ensuite shower-room and wc . The glorious view from this bedroom can be appreciated form the bed or the shower. On this level there is another large room (23m²) which can sleep four children or be used as another double bedroom. Just next to this room is a bathroom and wc. Finally on this floor there is a large utility room with full facilities for washing and drying clothes.

The house is lived in by the owners' family the rest of the year so it is decorated and designed as a home not as a secondary residence.

The swimming pool is a large 15 metre pool. Next to it is an extension to the main house which constitutes separate accommodation and has a double bedroom, bathroom (and wc) and sitting room. Beyond the pool there is a large open but shaded area for some respite from the heat of day.

The property is 1.4 hectares in total and contains terraced olive groves with over 250 olive trees and orange trees. The property makes it own marmalade and olive oil.

Nearby

The property is close to Mougins (20 minutes), Valbonne (10 minutes) and Grasse (20 minutes). Mougins is a village full of art galleries and restaurants, "clothed in flowers and bushes" according to the Michelin guide. Picassso lived here from 1961 until his death in 1973. Valbonne is a picturesque village with a wonderful food and clothes market on Fridays. Its buildings and arcades date back to the 15th and 17th centuries. Grasse, the largest town in the region is the home of the perfume industry and has a beautiful old centre. Grasse has attracted many famous persons such as Pauline, Napoleon’s rampant sister, and the less rampant Queen Victoria, both of whom spent quite some time here. It was the birthplace of Fragonard who managed to combine eroticism and landscape painting in the eighteenth century, before the Revolution arrived and disapproved.
